Breeding Loft

Our new Breeding Loft is 14 by 72 feet.  Like the racing loft the floor is concrete with hot water radiant heat.  We keep the floor temperature at around 50 degrees.  Just enough to keep the concrete and droppings dry.  The loft has a center hallway 6 feet wide with 24 individual breeding pens on each side.  Each breeding pen is 2' wide, 4' deep, and 7' high.  At one end of the loft is a 8 by 14' storage room and at the other end of the loft is a 8 by 14' extra bird compartment.  The picture above shows the circular driveway in front of the loft with our cactus garden in the center of the driveway.

The breeding pen windows are 1/2 by 1 inch wire mesh, no glass.  There are bamboo shutters I can roll down in bad weather.

In this picture you can see one of the bamboo shutters down.

As you enter the loft from the front door you come into the center utility room, and see the back door on the opposite side of the loft.

On one side of the front door are the feed bins, the other side has shavings, pine needles, and grit.

This is the pump and manifolds for the Hot Water Radiant Floor Heat.

This is my Feed Cart I built.  It holds fresh water, feed, grit, nest bowls, you name it.  I can roll it up and down the hallway as I feed and water the birds.

Each breeding pen door has three cups for Grit, Pellets, and Grain.  As I wheel my cart down the hall we just top off the cups.  The cups are removable if needed.
