Wood Pellet Litter

        Last winter we started using wood pellets for floor litter.  These are the same wood pellets that are sold for "Pellet Wood Stoves".  We use about an inch of the pellets on the floor.  The pellets have worked far better than we had hoped.  They not only keep the floor dry but I think help to draw the dampness out of the air also.  And the birds love them, many preferring to nest on the floor in the pellets.  Also the pellets seam to have a calming affect on the birds.  In some cases the pellets have been in use for 13 months now with out any ill effects or any extra dust.  

        We have found the "Pioneer" brand to be the best.  A 40 lb bag sells for under $3.00 and covers 4 by 4 feet.  Most hardware and farm stores sell wood pellets.
